TOURNE |
General Name: He once had another name, but since leaving the demon realm for the most part, he simply goes by ‘Tourne’. Age: Roughly 3000 years. Appears physically to be in his twenties or early thirties. Date of Birth: unknown Gender: unknown. Tends to use male pronouns by default, but since he can change almost every aspect of his physical body, including sex, at will, he considers the concept of gender to be a very human ideal and consequently, beneath him; cute at best, and pathetic at worst. Species: Timor demon (half mentis demon, half corporis demon. Referred to more often as a fear demon) (Prefers to be called a spirit; specifically, a spirit of dreams, luxury, fear, or all three depending on who he’s talking to.) Dimension: Demons and Angels (Uliel’s dimension) Appearance Link,Link (easier to see),Link (reference from the front, and of his left eye) As a demon, Tourne is very arrogant and egotistical, and takes a lot of pride in ‘his’ appearance. His body is very long and skinny, but his waist and hips are very shapely and feminine, giving him a somewhat androgynous build. His face is also very girlish and well-formed with thin features and slightly slanted, almond-shaped eyes. That’s about where his similarities to a human stop, however. His skin is a pale, greyish shade of purple but most notably, he has a set of formidable, dark gray horns curling backwards over his head and then up into a loose spiral at the end, and a pair of smaller ones just below them. These, along with the claws at the ends of his long fingers and the noticeable set of fangs among his otherwise fairly human teeth all appear dangerous and sharp. With the occasional exception of his claws, however, he would have to be incredibly angry to actually use any of them as weapons. This is largely because of his notable vanity, as he tends to use his horns mostly as mounts for jewellery and accessories, and usually has his claws hidden under gloves anyway, and he would much rather fight with magic than bother to take them off. As a fear demon, his eyes are an important centre of his powers, the left in particular, which has a reptilian, slit pupil on top of flame-like colours getting more intense and closer to red as the pattern gets closer to his pupil. Licks of a black, smokey colour seem to be creeping in at the edges as well. When he’s angry, however, his eye changes significantly; his pupil narrows, and the colours all intensify. The yellow and orange brighten to a blaze, and the black fills more of his eye and becomes darker. The angrier he is, the narrower his pupil and the brighter the colours get. When he’s angry, his eye also glows brightly. When he’s calm, it glows in the dark, but it’s much softer, and almost seems to flicker like candlelight. His right eye is a bit simpler, but still far from human; his pupil is bright, almost magenta, his iris is so pale it’s nearly white, and his sclera is a mid violet tone. Tourne takes a lot of pride in his eyes, and besides having a notable, elaborate tattoo of a hissing snake wrapping around his left eye, doubling back on his cheek and curling around the side of his neck, as well as a small swirl or hook under his left eye, he wears a lot of eye make-up. This includes thick black eyeliner and bright blue or purple eye shadow, and sometimes mascara. Despite this, he tends to style his hair, which is black with purple streaks and curls a bit at the end, over his left eye, and has to actually move his bangs out of the way with his hands to use its power. He also has a pair of dark purple wings, which seem too small to realistically carry him, but since he is able to float and hover, he mostly uses them to balance and steer anyway. They are also oddly shaped, with the ‘fingers’ being much longer than most of the surface area, and the outermost ones curling around in a spiral with a few lighter stripes at the end. His clothes straddle the line between simple and elaborate, mostly due to his affinity for accessories. He usually wears a simple dark, dull green shirt and purple striped leggings, with a brown leather belt around his waist attached to a sheath for a dagger. More noticeable, however, is his long coat made up of a complex patchwork of brown, gray, and purple materials that, along with his shirt, curves into strange, almost ragged-looking curls at the end that tend to move with his mood, or possibly by choice, crawling like tentacles along the floor or around someone or something he’s interested in, or simply coiling up tighter when he gets excited or angry. His coat doesn’t seem to have any kind of fastens or like it’s able to close, but the light violet collar is very large, reaching up past his neck and ending in points almost resembling a flame-like pattern. The other most noticeable part of his outfit is his pair of dark gray boots, which have pointed toes and tall heels. The boots themselves reach his thighs and almost cover his whole legs. They appear to be made of leather, and don’t look like they should offer as much mobility as they apparently do. They are kept done up with several lines of straight, bright pink lacing in front of the brown tongues that cross in an ‘x’ over his knees. His other main accessories are his gloves, which are pale purple and reach almost three-quarters of the way to his elbows, tapering off into points on the outer sides. They also, like his coat, have noticeable stitching down the seams on the sides, but it appears to be just for show, as the gloves are much more durable than the clumsy stitching makes them seem. Aside from that, his real affinity is for jewellery, and although what exactly he wears changes a lot, as it’s a main bargaining tool for him in making contracts, he has a few staples that he almost always wears. This includes two silver cuffs on his upper right horn with two delicate chains with jeweled beads between them, as well as wears gold, silver, or jeweled earrings in the many piercings along his ears. He has one special earring he usually wears about half-way down his right ear modeled in the shape of a silver snake with one ruby eye curling through his ear and wrapping behind it to curl its tail through a lower piercing. He also wears an elaborate neck piece with a large, purple gem set in a gold frame attached to a dark purple, satin ribbon and a gold chain that go around his neck. A small, pearl teardrop hangs beneath the gem from a thin gold chain. More chains extend from the gem’s frame out to his shoulders and loop around his arms, attaching to gold cuffs he wears just above his elbows. He also keeps lengths of dark purple or black string wrapped around his calves, and keeps small collections of trinkets, charms and beads at the ends. He also sometimes wears strange silver cuffs around his thighs shaped into bizarre swirled patterns. Besides all of that, he also tends to wear any bracelets, necklaces, earrings, or rings he gets from contracts, but rarely gets attached to those. He tends to favour gold or silver metal and purple, red, or pearl or opalescent-like gems. Although Tourne is able to alter much of his appearance at will, he is obviously very proud of his looks, and tends to stick to the one form. When he needs to, however, he can alter his form to be more human; losing his wings and horns, and gaining a more natural skin tone and turning his hair pure black. His clothes also tend to become simpler and he loses most of his jewellery. However, while his right eye changes to a human, brown eye, his left remains the same, so he tends to appear with an eye patch in his ‘human’ form. It is also not uncommon for demons of Tourne’s standings to have a familiar. Tourne’s familiar is a black mamba snake with unusual yellow eyes and remarkably dark, shiny scales and a notably thin face he’s named Cuddles. He is rarely far from her, and since he’s usually floating or hovering, the snake is usually tangled around his arms or legs, or resting around his neck. Personality Cross-bred demons are rare, but rather than just get a combination of the powers and weaknesses of their parents, they gain control of a separate emotional ‘element.’ A Mentis demon breeding with a De Anima demon will produce a Tristitia demon, which have powers revolving around causing misery and depression, and a Corporis demon breeding with a De Anima demon will produce a Furor demon, which induce and revel in rage and anger in those around them. As a mix of Corporis and Mentis, Tourne is what is referred to as a Timor, or Fear Demon. This means that as well as having powers revolving around detecting and exploiting the fears of others, he has an affinity for ‘playfully’ scaring others and a generally twisted sense of humour. However, his fairly harmless nature and neutral stance on the war means he will rarely do more than make someone jump or feel uneasy for a little while, unless he thinks they deserve it or has been contracted to do so. There is good reason Tourne prefers to call himself a spirit rather than a demon, as he is unusually friendly for what he is. Not overly so, of course, and he still isn’t particularly loyal or kind, but his impartiality and his generally fairly laid-back attitude make him much more likely to help than harm a stranger, regardless of species. He especially has an unusual fondness for humans, and genuinely does like helping them and making contracts with them for their benefit as much as his. He particularly likes children, and seeing one in danger, especially from another demon, is one of the few things that is almost guaranteed to anger him. His demeanour tends to change noticeably around children, too. Especially if no parents or other guardians are around, he tends to become protective and nurturing, and his usual playfulness and sense of humour soften and become much gentler and less malicious. Despite that, he is still a demon, and still has many of the vices of his kind, including his notable vanity, selfishness, and pride. As a half mentis demon, while hardly ‘insane’, he is certainly a bit unhinged, and though usually fairly calm, when he does lose his temper, he tends to slip into an uncontrollable rage. Aside from arrogance, his worst vice is probably his bloodlust. Like other Corporis demons, especially when angered, Tourne can be rather vicious, and has a thirst for violence and causing destruction and suffering. As well, being part Corporis demon gives him a natural desire to see blood, and combined with the instability from his Mentis side, it is surprisingly easy to anger him to the point of wanting to maim and kill. However, it is fairly easy to get on Tourne’s good side, as well. He may not ever be a particularly loyal friend, but he rarely has bad intentions towards a stranger, and will often help them for a reasonable price, usually some kind of material object like jewellery or an otherwise shiny or expensive luxury item. Cuddles has a very similar personality to Tourne, if a bit more laid-back. She tends to have very similar impressions of people to Tourne, and he trusts her judgement a lot. Despite being a very poisonous and dangerous snake, like her owner and true to her name, she is surprisingly friendly and will curiously crawl around and explore anyone who will let her. Likes

Family Mother: Unknown mentis demon Father: Unknown corporis demon (deceased) Siblings: none Other: Magalynn Clearwater (adoptive daughter) History Cross-bred demons are rare because while it isn’t really illegal to breed across types, it’s frowned upon and can be punished if certain precautions aren’t taken. Unfortunately, Tourne’s corporis father was punished for having a child with a mentis demon during a time of particular unrest between the two factions and was executed. Tourne’s mother gave him up after beginning to resent him for the death of his father, and he was surrendered to the corporis side and abandoned as an infant. He was raised in the strict, Spartan society of the corporis demons, and consequently grew up very disciplined and lonely. He could tell he was different from the other recruits, given his preference for more delicate and psychological warfare, and powers relating to fear and torment rather than just killing and fighting. This resulted in him being heavily picked on and outcast, although as his powers came in as he grew up, he discovered how it easy it was for him to manipulate and scare others to get what he wanted. He kept these revelations to himself, though, and grew up using his abilities to manipulate his way through the ranks of the army until he was excused and made a lord in Arzita’s personal court. He was given luxurious living quarters and jurisdiction over many lesser demons, and by now had received a familiar and was considered very powerful. He was content to stay that way forever, but when Astylian was attacked and he and the rest of the royal court were called upon to fight as part of the elite guard, he resented being told to fight again and escaped to the human realm, where he took to hiding in Ciras, occasionally venturing back into Astylian as the conflicts ebbed and died down, even wandering into the angelic country every once in a while as he got braver. Eventually, he came across a small but stately abandoned manor in the woods between Ciras and Astylian and took up residence inside, needing a place to stash the valuables he had begun to collect from the contracts he took out with humans and anyone who needed help and wasn’t an immediate threat to him. He had started out taking lives in exchange for contracts, but after spending more time around humans, he became more curious about them than anything and began simply asking for material possessions, usually clothes and accessories. This dulled his natural temper and bloodlust considerably, and although they are both still very present, he has become much more laid-back and cooperative. He still resents the Corporis demons for how he was treated growing up, and changed his name when he left to the demon word for ‘changed’. He meant for it to mean his lifestyle changing, but as his attitude towards the war and the humans has changed as well, the name has become all the more fitting. |
