Jacob Averathe |
General Age: 17 years Date of Birth: April 28th Gender: Male Species: Mutated human Dimension: Apex Disaster Appearance Link Jacob is slightly taller than average with tanned skin and dark, pale blond hair which has grown to reach his chin in front and to about the middle of his neck in back. The virus has given him long, pointed ears and also changed his eyes so that the outer edges of the whites of his eyes are clouded with black, which seems to move and shift constantly. He can also turn the whites of his eyes completely black at will, which allows him to see in the dark. He has a few outfits which he keeps in a gray, waterproof sports backpack which has two stripes, one yellow, one white, on each side. Pretty much everything he has is stained beyond repair, but he tries to keep them 'clean.' An iron rod of some sort can usually be seen poking out of his bag. He has five shirts, three of which are simple, short-sleeved, white t-shirts, another one which is basically the same, except with the symbol of a once-famous rock band on it, and the last of which is a black turtleneck. He only has two pairs of pants, both of which are jeans, and his boots are made from the same material rain boots are made of, but with a little cloth around a zipper on the side. His boots used to be dark gray, but barely any of that color can be seen through the dirt and stains on them. He also wears a brown belt with a holster and semi-automatic pistol in it, along with quite a bit of ammo for it in his pockets. He usually wears a dark gray jacket with a high collar which he can button to hide half of his face. He also keeps dark tinted goggles on his head to hide his eyes from others and a red, plaid bandanna around his neck, which he can use to wrap around his head and hide his ears. Personality Jacob never trusts easily. He often acts out of instinct, stealing whatever he needs and fleeing from danger without thinking about others. The only exception are the rare few he decides to trust, who he will often endanger his own life to save. He often refuses to consider anyone a friend. Even when he trusts someone he will refuse to treat them like a friend, afraid of betrayal. He may seem cold-hearted and arrogant, but in truth he only pretends to be that way. Likes

Family Mother: Mrs. Averathe (deceased) Father: Mr. Averathe (deceased) Siblings: Lucas Averathe (deceased) Other: N/A History Jacob was born into a middle-class family and never really had many troubles in his childhood. The most that happened was that he got into trouble for taking things from his school when he was little, but he was young and most people just assumed it was because he didn't know any better. He also sometimes got into trouble for protecting his younger brother, Lucas, who was often bullied for being timid. His father worked at one of the nearby ApexCo facilities, and when Jacob was old enough, he got him a job there. Jacob only worked part-time, though, and refused to get a full-time job there due to the sickness and rumors that were both rapidly spreading. When his brother went missing, he had no idea that he was being held in the very facility in which he worked, and all because of his father. He started skipping days of work simply to look for his brother. During this time he barely even noticed strange things happening to him, such as his ears ringing and hurting frequently, as well as his eyes watering. Jacob had been working when the facilities suddenly exploded. Though he survived, he soon began to put the pieces together. His father, who had hidden everything from his family, had known about the hostages all along, and had even forced his youngest son, Lucas, into becoming one. Though he still looked somewhat like his previous self, Lucas was no longer in control of his own mind. Jacob didn't know that, though, and tried to help him. His father, having survived as well, knew full well that the boy was no longer himself, and stopped Jacob. He blamed his father for everything, and fled, leaving him behind. He returned home, his mother still alive, though very confused and frightened, and packed up anything he thought would be useful. He got his mother to do the same and escaped with her to look for a safer place to stay. They found sanctuary in a fighter stronghold and, for a time, managed to live without too much of a struggle. There they learned about the new titles that had been given to certain 'factions.' Though his mother could have been considered a fighter, Jacob realized had been slowly changing over time, and realized that he would have to either hide or try to explain the changes without getting himself kicked out or killed. Meanwhile, the changes only got worse, though it was mostly just his ability to hear increasing and his ears becoming pointed, which he could hide with a bandanna he kept from his time before the Apex Disaster. One day his father came to the stronghold. He had somehow managed to stay relatively unaffected by the Apex Flu, despite having been heavily involved in ApexCo. Anything that had been changed was hidden well, and he easily fooled others into believing he was either a fighter or saved. Jacob recognized him, though, and warned the others in the stronghold. His mother refused to believe he was bad, though, and managed to get them to let him in. Jacob still didn't trust him, though, and made sure to keep an eye on him. His father knew he would be affected by the flu, though, and tried to get him to believe that they could form a group of lost and easily defend themselves with their newly discovered abilities. He wanted to take over the stronghold from the inside while most of them were asleep. It being a very small stronghold, didn't seem like it would be all that hard, but Jacob refused to participate in anything his father suggested. One night he, his father, and three other fighters from the stronghold were scouting for supplies when they ran into a rather large group of fallen. They were too far from the stronghold to run back without getting outrun, and were forced to either fight for their lives or give up all hope. They managed to get into an easily defended position amongst some ruined buildings, with each one holding off the fallen coming from different places. However, Jacob faltered when he recognized his younger brother amongst them, and the fallen swarmed them. In the chaos, the whites of his eyes turned black and he learned of his ability to see in the dark. With it and his increased hearing, he managed to escape, though the others, including his father, weren't so lucky. When he arrived at the stronghold, he didn't realize his eyes had changed, and would have been killed if it hadn't been for his mother, who let him live, but told him not to return to the stronghold. It wasn't for his looks that she forced him to leave, though, it was letting the others die. On his own, he found some tinted goggles, which he used to hide his eyes. This, along with his bandanna, allowed him to get into a small group of fighters and saved. This group had no qualms with stealing from others to survive, so long as it wasn't from each other, and often made a habit out of it every chance they could. However, when they resorted to killing and stealing from the ones they killed, Jacob decided that was enough. They thought he'd turn on them, though, and tried to kill him. He escaped, but feeling betrayed by everyone he'd once trusted, made up his mind never to trust anyone again and simply live on his own. He had already made a habit of stealing, though, and continued to do so, even on his own. With his night-vision and increased hearing he actually found it quite easy to sneak into strongholds, grab whatever he wanted, and leave without too much trouble. Not only that, but the more he did it, the easier it became. The few times he was spotted seemed to make him very famous amongst the strongholds, though. |
