MAGALYNN CLEARWATER |
General (May-gah-lin) Nickname(s): She usually prefers her full name, but Tourne has a few for her she doesn’t mind including Mags and Maggie, along with various pet names like ‘precious’ and ‘sweetheart’, as well as ‘little sparrow’ as her wings, thus far, have grown in most resembling those of a small bird. Age: Angel and demon children age a bit slower than humans and slow down or stop completely around or just after puberty. Magalynn has been alive for fourteen human years, but is physically only about ten. Date of Birth: unknown Gender: female Species: half mentis angel, half human Dimension: Angels & Demons Appearance Link Magalynn is fairly small for her age, and notably underfed and weak-looking, due to having to fend for herself for the past few years. Her eyes also not infrequently appear tired and sunken, owing to her chronic nightmares and sleeplessness. Her eyes have also been weak and near-sighted since birth, requiring her to wear her large, round, blue wire-framed glasses. She also has severe, noticeable burn scars on her neck and side of her face, as well as her feet and forearms. She has light scarring on her hands that has mostly healed. Aside from that, Magalynn appears to be a fairly average young mentis angel with tanned skin, pointed ears, and wild, frizzy blue hair that reaches her waist. It used to cause her problems such as getting tangled and caught on things, or obscuring her vision when she lived on her own, but since meeting Tourne, he helps her manage it and she now normally keeps most of it held back in a thick braid, although a fair portion of it is still left loose and her face is framed with several small curls and ringlets. Her wings are fairly small, resembling those of a sparrow, and might be able to carry her short distances or let her glide a bit for now, but they still have time to grow. Since she is half-human, however, it is possible they’ll stay that way, and it’s unknown whether or not they actually will grow. They are thickly feathered, though, and fairly well-maintained, although a few feathers seem to still be in the process of growing back in, making them a bit uneven. The shorter, downy feathers near the base and top of her wings are a pale indigo, but they fade to a very light blue, nearly white by the tips of her longer flight feathers. The outer sides are a similar pattern, but duller in colour. Her eyes are, like other angelic and demonic beings, are very bright, almost unnatural colours. Magalynn’s pupils are dark blue, her irises are violet, and her scleras are a light cyan. Both her late parents and Tourne have told her that she has pretty eyes, so she is rather proud of them, although she doesn’t say so often. She dresses rather fashionably, given that Tourne both provides her clothes as of late, and enjoys playing stylist. Her preferred outfit is a sleeveless cyan sundress with a pale indigo triangle encompassing the straps and neckline, and coming to a point towards her navel. She wears a pale purple ribbon around her waist tied in a bow in the back as a belt, as well as simple black leggings and a black shrug with a small pink bow holding it closed at the top. She also usually wears black flats decorated with pale violet ribbons crossing over her feet and wrapping around her ankles, and another, dark purple ribbon tied in a bow and held in place with a light violet gem around her neck. She likes this ribbon a lot and wears it almost every day. It holds special sentimental value for her as the ribbon came from one of her mother’s dresses, and the gemstone was a special gift from Tourne’s contract hoard that he gave her the day they met as a sign of friendship. Personality Magalynn is very mature for her age, having had to grow up rather quickly after her parents died. She is timid and soft-spoken, but well-read and intelligent. She is also surprisingly cunning, having had to find ways to feed and shelter herself while living on the streets, and being too weak to defend herself in a fight, she’s had to be clever enough to find other ways to stay safe. Having trained herself to stay hidden and unnoticed, Maggie is naturally very quiet, and it’s rare that she talks to strangers. She is also surprisingly cynical and level-headed for her age, and is often skeptical of most people, considering any positive situation too good to be true and trusting almost no one, as she has experienced an inequitable amount of misfortune in her life so far. She is, however, also very easy to scare because of this, and her natural pessimism often leads her to take any sort of threat, no matter how vague, far too seriously. If one can gain her trust, however, she can be very sweet and even talkative, if caught in the right mood. For instance, it took quite a bit for Tourne to gain her trust, but since he has, she has accepted him as a sort of adoptive guardian, and since she has started living with him, she has felt safe enough to open up a bit and seems generally happier than she was before. Her childish innocence may never be fully recovered, but she has at least somewhat been able to resume having a proper childhood. Likes

Family Mother: Tiana (Mentis angel, deceased) Father: Ezekiel Clearwater (human, deceased) Siblings: none Other: Tourne (adoptive guardian) History Magalynn’s mother was an unusually reckless soldier in the angelic mentis army that fell in love with a human living in the Drerimar capital. After meeting him, she became enraptured and obsessed with the idea of seeing him again. She did manage to sneak away and meet with him a few more times, and eventually convinced him to come with her to the angelic mentis province, where she resigned from the army to settle down and raise a family. They only had a single child; Magalynn, and though they tried for a second, half-breed children were very rarely conceived, and considered an abnormality. They were fairly happy for the first several years of Magalynn’s life, though she grew up quiet and withdrawn, suspecting other people of persecuting her for having one angelic parent and one human parent. The backlash wasn’t nearly as bad as it would have been in Caliga, but it was because her existence was viewed as an abomination by some that, during an attack from the demonic De Anima army, someone took advantage of the chaos to burn their house down. Magalynn’s father was the first to perish, trapped under a collapsed wall. Her mother almost made it out, but ultimately, when confronted with a blocked exit, sacrificed herself to save her daughter. Magalynn did manage to escape, though she was badly injured, and sustained severe burns on nearly her whole body. She also managed to hang onto a ribbon from her mother’s clothes that had come off in her hand. This ribbon would become her last memento from her parents. Magalynn didn’t make it far from the burning house before the smoke in her lungs caused her to collapse in a coughing fit. She was nearly unconscious when she was taken by demonic soldiers. She managed to escape them, but not before they made it back to Drerimar, where she would wander as a homeless orphan for the next four years. While learning to fend for herself, she encountered many disturbing displays and dangerous individuals among the De Anima demons, which only worsened her chronic nightmares, which had begun with the death of her parents. She was fairly emaciated, weak from the winter cold and hunger, sleep-deprived, and adorned with fresher injuries and not-quite-healed burn scars on the night she met Tourne. She had been scavenging in an alleyway for food scraps or maybe a semi-sheltered place to sleep when she was approached by a human man whom she had been too distracted to hear coming. He was wielding a knife and threatening to cut her wings off, as the feathers and wings of a young angel were considered rather valuable, if technically illegal in demonic society. Although Maggie’s wings were small, weak, and still missing patches of feathers where they had been burned off or fallen out, he still thought he could fetch a decent price for them. She attempted to run, but in her especially weakened state, combined with her panic at having been caught off-guard, she only succeeded in getting herself cornered in a dead-end. The man had managed to grab her, and she was mentally preparing to experience possibly-fatal pain when they were interrupted by a disembodied voice, laughing and teasing the man for preying on children. When a long, black snake emerged from a nearby shadow, the man panicked and dropped Magalynn, allowing her to quickly crawl away to a hiding place where she could watch a demon in a long coat and tall boots appear out of thin air and calmly continue to tease, insult, and threaten the man, who had dropped his weapon and was too afraid to answer. The demon quickly became bored of the man and grabbed him by the throat and stared hard at him, seeming to hypnotise him –although she would realise later that the man was being shown his worst fear- as he hissed some threat Magalynn couldn’t hear before releasing the human with a command to leave. The man fled as soon as he was released, and Magalynn expected the demon to leave too, but became worried when he turned and calmly began calling for her, telekinetically moving debris and boxes out of the way as he looked for her. She remained hidden in the vain hope that he wouldn’t find her, but he did, of course. She was primarily confused, however, when he crouched down in front of her, greeting her gently and introducing himself as a spirit, rather than a demon, named Tourne. She was still afraid and didn’t say anything as he attempted to calm her down by speaking softly and showing her small displays of harmless illusion magic, but did finally break and respond when he pointed out that it was beginning to snow, and offering to walk her home. She was hesitant, and would later blame it on sleep deprivation, but at this point she finally snapped and broke down crying as she explained to him what had happened to her parents and how she had been living for the past two years. Tourne seemed sympathetic, and after hearing the story, told her he had a house with extra beds and food, and offered to let her rest there. She was still afraid, but given that his saving her was the first real act of kindness she had had in a long time, decided to trust him. To her relief, he wasn’t lying, and after bringing her to a seemingly abandoned, but surprisingly well-kept mansion in the woods, he fed her, allowed her to use the mansion’s facilities to bathe, and even found her somewhat suitable bedclothes left by the previous owners. He offered to help her groom her wings and hair and treat her wounds, but she didn’t trust him enough to let him that close to her. That night she had a typical, if particularly bad nightmare, and Tourne, who was still awake at the time, sensed her fear and entered her dream. Although he couldn’t change or control anything without her signing a contract, he managed to explain to her that she was dreaming. He offered her a contract, but she still didn’t trust him nearly enough to agree to signing anything. He still proceeded to follow her through the dream, though, reminding her that it wasn’t real. To prove what he said was true, he showed her a small, light purple gemstone from his hoard, and in the morning, presented her with the real-world version of the jewel as a gift. Although he technically only offered her the night, he never brought up the concept of her leaving and she ended up remaining there with him for another week, then a month, then a year, then three years. She is now virtually inseparable from him and has come to think of him as an adoptive guardian, and trusts him more than anyone. |
